The Parish Council has asked that Derbyshire County Council place a pedestrian crossing on the A632 at the bottom of Dale Close. The Bus stop is on a blind corner and it is extremely unsafe for people of all ages to cross the busy road.

This was Steve Dungworth, Senior Technician at Derbyshire County Council's response.

In order for a controlled crossing to be installed at this site the location must meet certain criteria relating to the number of pedestrians crossing A632 versus

the number of vehicles using the A632. Whilst the traffic flows on the A632 may be heavy, the number of pedestrians crossing the A632 highway to access the

bus stop is not sufficient to justify a controlled crossing costing in the region of £20,000 - £30,000.

Derbyshire County Council had a similar request for a crossing over Crow Lane in the middle of Chesterfield outside the railway station and whilst the traffic

flows were less than the traffic flows on the A632, the number of pedestrians wishing to cross Crow Lane were far higher than the number of pedestrians wishing

to cross the A632 to access the bus stop and even this location had nowhere near the required ratio of pedestrians to vehicles to justify the installation of a controlled crossing.

The Parish Council do not consider ratio's should be compared to lives. We will continue to pursue this issue.
